Leadership of George Bush

I am a leadership fanatic.  I love reading books about leadership but you know what?  I am not a very good leader.  I look up to leaders and I feel for those who have had a difficult environment when having to demonstrate their leadership abilities.

I also like football.  I am an expert when it comes to the NFL quarterback position.  Every time the quarterback makes a mistake on the Television I yell at him and wonder why he made such a dumb play.  I’m an expert… yea right!  If a 300 pound lineman was getting ready to sack me I think I would poop my britches!

I don’t have a clue what it is like being an NFL qaurterback.  It’s kind of like I don’t have a clue what it is like being the President of the United States.  I know their are cons in politics and people are ego driven but being our president has to be a hard job.

I confess I never voted for George Bush and I don’t agree with every choice he made while in office.  The first time I left the country I found myself defending a man I never voted for.  Why?  Because he is my president.  I love the Germans but when they talked bad about my president I felt a patriotic pride swell up within me and I felt the need to stick up for George Bush.

Here’s my point: The man didn’t always make the best choices.  He didn’t always use the right words.  Neither do we.  We do not know what kind of choices we would make if we were the President of the United States.  Until we put on the lapel and swear on the Bible; until we have to make major decisions about the lives of millions of people  maybe we shouldn’t act like we know how to run this country.

I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe what this country needs is more Monday morning quarterbacks.
