I want to warn Americans who plan on taking a trip to Europe. Your drink options aren’t the best. Want some good tap water? Sorry, you’ll have to settle for carbonated mineral water.
Mineral Water
This isn’t your Arkansas spring mineral water. This is mineral water with added carbonation. This comes in two styles (not flavors). Medium and Hard. Medium has half the carbonation as Hard. I prefer Hard because it drowns out the mineral taste.
If you are American and interested in trying European mineral water then go to your local Wal-Mart and check the water isle.
Earl Grey
Drinking Earl Grey sounds classy. It was the constant companion of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Every time I sip this tea I take a double look to make sure I didn’t drink warm perfume. What’s causing this awful taste? My guess would be the oil of bergamot.
Vita-Malz
I love me some malt but only in ice cream. In Europe one can buy “beer for children”. It taste like donkey dung. I actually think the ingredients are donkey dung, mineral water and malt.
Schweppes Bitter Lemon
Shweppes actually has some good tasting drinks such as their ginger ale. Bitter Lemon is not one of these good tasting drinks! It reminds me of a bitter lemon Tear Jerker but in the form of liquid instead of candy.
American Beer
Seriously? Who is going to drink a Budweiser in Europe when Europe makes the best beer in the world? Drink a good Bavarian beer or a Guinness and you’ll be drinking some of the best beer there is.
Any other beverages we should stay clear from? It can be European or anywhere else in the world. Share in the comments!

I would avoid the cranberry malt that is making the rounds in all of the trendy spots in West Virginia should you could come stateside.
Earl Grey is available in the US. I’m glad it’s not just me.
Steering clear of cranberry malt.
Who else has issues with the Earl Grey?
Scotch. All of it, even the good stuff. My husband is always like, “Here. Really. Try this. You’ll love it. Go on, taste it. It’s Fantastic.” I don’t get the fascination. It’s just bad. I’d rather drink a spiked Earl Grey.
I’ve never tried Scotch. Isn’t that what they are always drinking in Soap Operas?
Yes, that’s what they drink on the Soaps that I watch, while I lay on the couch, eat bon-bons and have my kids fan me.
Man, you’ve got the life!
I’ve never been able to handle tea.
Kinda’ doubt I’ll ever again try to ‘make it so’.
‘make it so’ Love the reference to the Captain
Glad you caught that, number one!
I’ll be number one if I also get to have Deanna Troi
If you can’t get good tap water, what about toilet water? All the dogs rave about it.
Toilet water? Oh, that would be called French bottled water
Thank god someone else thinks Early Grey tastes like Estee Lauder! As the loon I am I always like trying new things. Years ago while in Germany I bought a can of something that tasted like watered down toothpaste.
Then there is Calpis (translated Cow Piss) in Japan. Milk/yoghurt soda drink urgh!
What’s funny is that in Germany they think root beer taste like toothpaste.
it’s not just Germans – when I moved to Canada (many years ago now) I foolishly decided to try this root beer stuff I’d seen folk on american TV shows and in films drinking
I took one sip and spat it out – it tasted like the pink stuff my dentist gives me to wash my mouth out after I’ve had some work done on my teeth
Absolutely revolting !!!
P.S. I’m with you and loon regarding Earl Grey – I don’t like tea in general (I’m a coffee drinker, myself) and like perfumed tea even less !
I like root beer!
One must have to grow up with Root Beer in order to like it. It is great with Ice Cream!
I am not overly eager to try the Calpis
Yeah, I think I will stay away from cow piss also.
Vita-Malt does sound enticing. If you’re a maggot that is…
I haven’t tried Earl Grey, I always thought I was too far down the Class ladder for it.Posh people always eat & drink crap though. Look at Caviar for example Gag, gag, gag…
Give me a good Bavarian beer and let the snotty people drink their Earl Grey.
Most of this stuff was already on my list of beverages to avoid. I guess I’m not that daring when it comes to drinking. I can’t even really stand the taste of Dr. Pepper.
Dr. Pepper is alright but most either like it or hate it.
I still love budweiser. But i also love guiness. Its like a beer and a meal at the same time..
