ADHD Does Not Exist In Germany
Nicotine Is King In Deutschland
I have a theory on why ADHD is not diagnosed as much in Germany as it is in USA. What is it? I think the reason is that children are given more of an opportunity to smoke in Germany than they are in the US.
In order for a 10-year-old to get cigarettes in the US they either have to steal or they must have a friend who is at least 8 years older than them who can legally make a purchase.
Not so in Germany. In Germany, children only need a few Euros to get their smokes. They can easily obtain cigarettes from the cigarette dispensers that are found every few blocks.
How does smoking help ADHD? It provides the ADHD brain what it is lacking. Nicotine releases dopamine in the brain and helps thoughts come into focus. If a German child has ADHD he can easily self-medicate with nicotine.
Remember this is just my theory and I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Though it is just a theory I am informing Germany that they have received a Dummies of the Year nomination. Congratulations!
Smoking also calms some of the effects of Asperger's Syndrome. I am not talking from a study, but from my own personal experience.
There was a study that backs your claim. Smokers have a larger attention span while smoking than non-smokers. They have a slightly smaller attention span during nicotine withdrawal.
Without me googling it (that would kill conversation) what are some of the symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome?
Asperger's Syndrome is a form of autism. I can do many of the things that most people can do, but I am prone to sensory overload.
I can't imagine this in your situation because I feel like I can have sensory overload at times but I am sure it doesn't even compare. Thanks for sharing.
I agree that there are things in society that will make our ADD worse,
such as video games. I said just today on a adhd forum that if I was
sent to a deserted island with nothing to do I would still have ADD.
I thought about trying the nicotine patch but haven't for two reasons.
I don't know how safe it is and also my wife is concerned for my well-being.
Thanks for sharing what helps you cope.
Good luck with your degree and Don't Do Drugs. Well at least the kind that
is illegal without a prescription. ;)
An interesting comment. Smoking for myself helped - and helps - with ADD.
We can't, however, completely discount different social factors. It is entirely possible that Germans are less prone to ADD than other nationalities. Not very likely, but possible.
Possibly, a great percentage of Germans with ADD died in the war, for instance, as ADD people are more prone to risk taking behavior.
So what you are saying is that all of Germans ADHD'ers were Nazis? ;)
I haven't tried nicotine for my inattentive adhd. I currently take Strattera and it works okay. I researched if there were people who have tried a nicotine patch for their ADHD but didn't find any good answers.
Nicotine is actually being tested right now for ADHD. It will be interesting to see how they would market it. I can't imagine that the drug companies could make money from nicotine considering that one can go into Walmart and purchase the patch OTC.
Thanks for commenting and for your theory.
I feel Germany is far behind the world when i comes to ADHD, more awareness is needed. The USA are the leading experts in ADHD
The USA are the leading experts in bullshit medicine. ADHD has no proven biological basis. Some people have trouble focusing - it's not a disorder, it's just how they are. Sure, it puts them at a disadvantage, but one that can be overcome with simple cognitive therapy.
The US consumes 90% of the ADHD meds in the world. This doesn't mean we have more people with the "disorder" simply that we label and medicate faster. Germans tend to have a more holistic approach to health. If a kid is active and restless -- they need more time outside and more sports. If a kid is weak academically, there are alternate vocational options. When Germans are sick they stay home in bed until they feel better. Conversely in the US, kids are meant to be seen and not heard and this is easily achieved when they are in front of the tv. We have one track for education where if you don't go to university, you fail utterly. When we Amis are sick, we take a pill and keep going.
To David (the idiot who talked about the war). You must be stupid beyond belief to claim that all the Germans with "ADHD" died in the war because they liked taking risks. First off, most casualties were MEN. But "ADHD" "occurs" in men and women. Second of all - as Mel rightly pointed out - your statement could mean that all "ADHD"ers were Nazis. Not likely. Or that they were Jews. Once again - absurd.
Mel - don't respond to comments you don't fully understand.
Keithyckeithydo - thank you for posting an intelligent comment! I've lived in four different countries, including the USA, and had never come across the term ADHD in Romania, Egypt or the UK. Why? Because it doesn't really exist! Because it was some stupid story made up by doctors who sold people like David, and the rest of you, some harmful drugs, and made a huge profit off your naivety.
you people are unbelievable, first off anyone out there reading this dont smoke, i used to, it stinks and makes you very unfit, secondly, stop drugging your kids, there are less cases of "ADHD" in germany because they have common sense and are good at disciplining their children, they recognise the need for good parenting and do not just drug their children because they are not behaving. if you can find me one single piece of comprehensive proof that "ADHD" is a true disease (not just some doctors/scientists two cents on the matter actual proof and scientific evidence) i will retract my statement
I agree with most of what you have to say. I don't agree that Germans are good at disciplining their children. Then again everybody's definition of "good disciplining" is slightly different.
What makes your theory so right, can you show one single piece of comprehensive proof the "Your ADHD" theory is right, First of all ADHD is not a disease, a disease is something you catch, I would say you get your theory from the media, and what you know about ADHD you could right on a Postage stamp
