Dummies of the Year is now two months old and has nearly 45,000 hits. I don’t say this to brag I just wanted to pass some of my knowledge on to you. How have I racked up this many hits? Actually I am only sure about a few things and the rest are just hunches.
Top Three Referrers You Can Trust
1. AplhaInventions
2. WordPress
3. Google
My Hunches
1. Google Blog Search Ping Services
2. Feedburner Ping
- I ping both once with every post I publish
- After verifying your site one can see all sorts of helpful stats that show them things like keywords, inbound links, mission links, etc.
4. Feedburner
5. Mr. Wong
- Mr. Wong is good for two reasons: They are a dofollow site and their page rank is 4.
Your Thoughts
Who are your top referrers? Do you have any hunches about what helps get traffic to your site?

If I had blogger (barf) my feedjit widget would tell me where they came from but this is not an option on WP.
You found me through blogcatalog I assume. I will have to check out how many referrers come from there. They might make my list.

I got 14,000 page views in two days. Then down to 20-30 per day max, and you have to re-enter your blog each day, just to get that. My theory is that the owner wants you to buy the number and get juiced again. The hits are not worth much really because noone is coming to your site. Maybe a few people, but it is negligible. The alpha site simply puts you in the rotation like crazy for one day and then lowers it the next and then down to nil on the third. It's like cocaine. Big rush, then you want more.
I still don't understand how I got 10k views in a matter of about 10 hours. That's 1000 per hour, around 166 per minute. Obviously your page is not showing up in the rotation 166 times each minute, so I wonder how it manipulates the counter on your page to record so many page views.
Anyway, it was fun for a day to feel what it's like.
My blog just got picked up by Alpha Inventions yesterday and it increased my traffic immensely - the only thing I'm not certain of is whether or not WordPress counts the times a blog shows up in the preview pane as a view or not.
I have not checked it out yet but plan on doing so later tonight. thanks for the advise.

That's an impressive number of hits.
Have you tried StatCounter or another statistics service like it? It has some pretty cool features to find out more about visitors, and it works (well, most of its features) on WordPress.com too.

It's the source of a large number of my hits, too.
Although very few comments come from there.
