Blogs Live and Blogs Die
Blogs come and blogs go. People get excited to start something new but eventually it all comes to an end. Some blogs start off really fast but then once the newness is gone and the commenters scatter all that is left is tumbleweeds.
When does a blog die? I think it really depends on why the blogger blogs. If they blog just to get their thoughts down on the screen then it really never dies because the only person the blogger is trying to reach is themselves.
If they are trying to reach a broader audience and that audience scatters then it may be time to let the blog die. It isn’t serving it’s purpose and just taking up space.
So At What Age Does Death Happen?
From what you have seen at what age does a blog die? I am going to go ahead and give my answer but I would like to know your answer. I say it is 3 months. That’s right, I don’t think that most blogs even makes it a year before they die.

Interesting article, take a look at my blog and tell me if I have more than three months
I have been blogging for almost two years. I find that it takes a while for people to find a blog. I started blogging in February 2008, but did not have many readers until mid-November. It takes time for a blog to grow.
It stinks not to get any readers. I had readers here right away but have since lost most of them. It makes me second guess what I am doing.
I am all about a blog dying if it doesn’t fulfill the blogger. Being ADD I have so many blog ideas just not enough focus to actually do them.
Thanks for the comment.
I’ve been blogging since August. It is a public log of my travel experiences, so it won’t die. I intend to publish every day for the next eleven months, and when my travel programme comes to an end, it will be time to let it go. But even then, it won’t be dead because all the articles would still be there for people to read.
But I understand the point of this article. I do because I used to have another blog which I let go off for a while because I had nothing to say. Nevertheless, I still get at least five visits there every day. See?
I think it is okay for a blog to die if it doesn’t really fulfill the blogger.
This is like my 3rd or 4th blog and I am not sure how long I am going to let it go.
Thanks for commenting.
Write for yourself.
I am coming up real fast on my first birthday for the Aerie. About 2 weeks…..
Hey Tater! How about drop me that link again for the group blog thing you created. Drop it in my Chat With Me page. thx
You got it Gryph.
Congrats on the success going on over at the Aerie.
I’m just past 3 months on my blog and at the moment still enjoy it and keep try to keep things consistent. May be due to the fact, I write for myself.
The comments and interactions are a bonus but my content are all personal. I started the blog for this purpose and hope to continue this way. I also love to write and find this therapeutic.
You have a great blog. I will get in touch when I complete my “interwebbers of interest” (blogroll) compiled.
All the best.
Thanks for the comment Genevieve
Congrats on passing the 3 month mark. I too find writing to be therapeutic.
I think personal blogs that we write for ourselves last the longest.
Thanks for dropping by!
At What Age Does The Average Blog Die? – via @dummiesyear http://dummiesoftheyear.com/at-what-age-…
I have had many blogs in the past, I can’t even remember the actual number now. My 1st one was Windows Live Spaces, then I changed to ModBlog. They eventually shut down so I migrated to Blogger for a while where I had several different blogs. Later I discovered WP.com where I became a bit/lot on & off with bloggimg, deleting, then strarting again as my interest waxed & waned. I transferred my current blog from WP.com to WP self hosted in October I think it was last year. My current blog has been in existence including it’s WP.com existence since February 1, 2010 so am nearly up to a full year. That is the longest one of my blogs has ever lasted. My discovery of cartooning in October 2010 has led to a continued impetus to keep going as I have created a Comicpress subdomain.
Thank for sharing your history Tony! I think it is easier to keep blogging when one knows they have an audience and by the looks of your comment section you do have one.
Thanks again
