Last week my Mac crashed so I took my poor baby to Best Buy’s Geek Squad. They had 3 guys who “know” how to work on Macs. They told me it would take 3 to 5 days to figure out the problem.

I gave them two phone numbers so that I could be easily reached. They only called one of those numbers. I was out of town for two days so I expected them to call my cell phone if they ran into problems, they didn’t. They called my home phone and left a message.

When I get home from my trip they now have had my computer for 7 days. They left me a message saying they needed my operating discs. I drove to Best Buy and gave them my operating disks.

They told me my Mac’s problem was the hard drive. It was going to cost $120 to replace it. Plus they were going to charge me $100 just to download the operating disks. Any monkey could figure out how to pop a disk in a Mac and download OS X, so I declined.

The next day they had my computer fixed, so I went and picked it up. I brought it home fired it up and NOTHING.

I brought it back to the Geek Squad and they looked over it for half an hour. Mr. Geek told me that it is more than the hard drive (why he couldn’t tell me this before charging me $120 I do not know). His advise? Take it to an Apple store and let them look at it.

I just purchased another computer the next day. Where? Best Buy. Damn you Best Buy for having the best computer selection in my town!

Do not take your Mac to Best Buy’s Geek Squad. The Geek Squad was friendly enough but their niceness couldn’t fix my computer.

Feel free to share you experience with Best Buy’s Geek Squad, good or bad.
