Gay Bishop To Pray At Obama’s Inauguration

President-elect Barack Obama has asked the Bishop of the Episcopalian Church, the Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson, to give a prayer at his inauguration. This decision comes after he chose Rick Warren to offer prayer.  This seems like a smart move for Obama.  Smart, because he could quiet the uproar that was caused among the gay-community when he chose Rick Warren.  They did not like the choice of Rick Warren because he supported Proposition 8.  8 eliminated the right for same-sex couples to marry in the state of California.

My Thoughts And Yours

*Attention* This is your chance to leave a comment: Since this could be a touchy issue I want to handle the “dumb” question with care.  Is it a dumb move by the future president to have another person, regardless of sexual orientation, to pray at his inauguration just to appease an offended group of people?

It is the correct move to have a person deliver a prayer regardless of orientation. It is the politically correct move to intentionally select a gay person to deliver the prayer. Correctness ain't the key. Political is. Did anyone doubt that he is a politician?

@ Yellow6347,I am not sure we will know how he really feels. I think every president tries to please most people to some extent whether they want to or not.

@p,Johanna, Thanks for the sources. Also thanks for your answer. I think it is more important to stick to one's guns. The problem is that there is always a group of people in the US who will disagree with him. He can't please them all,or at least not at the same time.

It is politics!! Obama is trying to please everyone and make no one mad. I though Rick Warren was excellent, but then the Robinson pray is to satisfy another group. Who know what Obama really personally feels?

Thanks for the clarification. Would you mind providing your source? Thanks.

Joe, your use of the word "NOT" is just plain "Gnarly Dude!" ;)

Wonderful insight into how future issues may possibly be dealt with. It builds such great confidence. NOT!

although i agree that it is a political move on his behalf, i find it suspicious that he did this 7 days before the inauguration. He was so adament on his original choice.

Yea, because a source isn't a source unless it is concrete, right?

I am a blogger for Lez Get Real, a lesbian site. You can also do a google check and all sort of sources will come up. Do you need more? More concrete evidence?

Thanks for the clarification. Would you mind providing your source? Thanks.

For clarification, the homosexual community wasn't offended because Rick supported Proposition 8. It was because he equated the homosexual lifestyle to that of incest and pedophilia, big difference.
