Is Your Blog Traffic Code Blue?
Are you tired of writing tons of blog posts with very little return? Do you want to know how to really boost your blog traffic? Allow me to share with you 3 tips that have really helped me gain a nice size amount of daily visitors.
Break News
January 12, 2010 I accidentally did something in blogging that I had never done before. I was the first person to blog about Glenn Beck’s new intro music. I wasn’t trying to be first, it just happened.
People came to Dummies of the Year looking for information about Glenn’s new song. I didn’t have any information, just questions. Because I was the first and I had a really good title filled with keywords, I ranked at the top of the search engines for Glenn Beck New Theme Song 2010.
Over the last 12 months that small post has accumulated 114 comments and 33,881 hits! Why? Simply because I was the first one to write about it. It can be difficult but if you are first about a fairly popular topic you will see your traffic skyrocket.
Write Pillar Articles
Pillar articles answer timeless questions. An example would be “How to make no-bake cookies in 5 easy steps.” That post will just as popular in one year as it is today.
In order to have consistent traffic one needs a handful of pillar articles on their site. Make sure that your post title asks a question and that your post content answers that question.
Want to see a really good post explaining more about pillar articles? Then visit How To Write Great Blog Content – The Pillar Article.
Submit to StumbleUpon
Create a StumbleUpon account. Make friends. Submit their posts and ask them to do the same. Tip: Only submit your best work. I have noticed that some of my posts never really catch on at StumbleUpon.
Those are just 3 of my tips that can help boost your traffic overnight. Do you have any other great tips that work for you? Share in the comments!

I have blogged about Billy Mays a couple of times before he died. One of the blog entries included a picture. That entry received over 1,000 hits the day he died and almost 5,000 that week.
I think you will increase traffic to your blog just by giving tips on how to increase traffic to your blog.
Yep.
My intention is for this to be a pillar article about how to increase traffic.
It’s weird how what we blog about sometimes gets us traffic.
I did a Billy Mays post shortly after he died and don’t remember receiving too much traffic. I think because you blogged before he died you got lucky there.
Two of my biggest cartoons were on swine flu and more recently on the change to wonder woman’s costume. I guess “wonder woman” and “Nude” as keywords don’t hurt.
Sex sells.
Sex does sell. In the right post they work but I have seen people use sex in the weirdest context just to try and get hits.
I have never been guilty of that
Sex is big time alright. My “Sexy Sheep” post still pulls in high stats on the keyword searches. There’s some weird people in this world & they like to visit my blog… :-/
I wonder if I could capitalize on Sexy Goats?
My Cake Disasters (part 1) gets me the most traffic due to the name of one of the cakes. Apparently (and you’d be amazed that people actually search for this) the Butt Cake has attracted a lot of attention.
I wrote about oatmeal a couple of weeks ago and submitted that post to reddit food and got tons of hits.
People love food and apparently butt also.
