Pro Bowl Is Dumb Bowl

Peyton-Manning-Jake-DelhommeThe Pro Bowl Is Risky Business

The three biggest sports in the United States are Basketball, Baseball and Football.  Out of these three it is my opinion that the first two tend to have less injuries than Football.  Because of this it makes since for the first two to have their All Star games in the middle of the season.  It’s not likely that a player from either sport are going to go down for the season due to injury.  Football is another story.  Each year the Pro Bowl is held one week after the Super Bowl.  This makes sense considering the fact that injury is so likely.  I wonder if they should even have a Pro Bowl at all.  Is it really worth the risk of injuring high dollar players?

Change Has Come To The Pro Bowl

Next year change will come to the Pro Bowl in two ways.  First they are moving the game from Honolulu, Hawaii to Miami, Florida.  No big deal there right?  Who really cares where it is played.  I have been to Honolulu and it is nice but it is not some heavenly paradise like some claim it is.  The second change is when the Pro Bowl will be played.  This is ridiculous, are you ready for this?  The game will be held one week before the Super Bowl!  If I was the coach headed to the Super Bowl and I had a play maker going to the Pro Bowl I think I would forbid him to play in it.

Dumb Thoughts

What do you think?  Is it dumb of commissioner Roger Goodell to make a move like this?  Would it be dumb of the players to play in a Pro Bowl, a game that means jack-squat to the season?  Would it be dumb for the coaches heading to the Super Bowl to let their Pro Bowl players participate in that game, especially one week prior to the biggest game of their career?

Well, when there isn't much to take away to begin with, no big loss. To quote the late Billy Preston, "Nothing from nothing leave nothing."

you made some good points. The only con I see is super bowl players not playing in it. I understand why they won't but it seems to take something away from the pro bowl.

Couple things. (1) Nobody gets seriously hurt in the Pro Bowl. It doesn't count for anything, so nobody's flying around looking to decapitate people. (2) Obviously, if you're playing in the Super Bowl a week later, you won't be playing in the Pro Bowl. No player would even consider it.

It doesn't really matter when they play the Pro Bowl. As it stands now, it is the unnecessary appendix to the NFL season that nobody cares about. This way, at least it gives us something to watch between the conference championships and the Super Bowl.

I have played a little bit of soccer before and I have to say it hurts... especially sometimes

American football hurts also because the main point is to run into somebody as hard as one can... ouch!

That does seem pretty stupid. What's all that padding on American footballers?

The NFL (National Football League) is made up of 32 teams.

There are two divisions in in the NFL:

1. NFC (National Football Conference)

2. AFC (American Football Conference)

The NFL takes the best players (I think according to their stats for that one season) and the best of the best in both divisions play a football game against each other.

NFC vs. AFC

It's really all for fun and doesn't count for anything in the regular season.

So is the pro bowl made up of teams comprising all the best players from each NFL team over the previous season??
