Kicked In The Gut
This is what one person had to say about my blog,
“Dummies of the Year” is an awful blog. What bothers me is how terrible all the articles are.
Talk about a kick in the gut.
I have to admit that most of my articles are kind of crappy. Last week I set out to sharpen the focus of this site. This means that I am now trying on 100% of my posts to make them noncrappy and more engaging.
Pros
- My blog is nearing two years.
- My traffic isn’t too bad. 5,000 visits/9000 page views in the last month.
- Google Page Rank 4.
- A key article that is linked in a popular Wikipedia article (without me spamming them).
- I have a plan to improve my blog.
Cons
- I went so long being sporadic. Not being consistent in posting.
- Not publishing my best content.
- Almost zero community. I have two loyal commenters (that’s a pro but I need at least 8 more).

Kick Me In The Gut
Okay don’t kick, I already hurt enough as it is. Rather, give me some friendly advise. What could I do different that I am not doing now. As always, share in the comments below.

to build a community in the beginning you have to seek out those who are most likely to want to comment and you have to be willing to comment on their blog on a regular basis as well. You have done thatwith me…you need to expand.
Thanks for the tips. I began to expand this week actually. I have noticed some return.
I am also trying to get more connections via twitter and stumbleupon.
I’ve made some connections with Twitter. SU is great for promoting items but not so much for gaining repeat followers/commenters
I am using SU to promote my posts and my followers posts.
I was told I run a poor campaign. But that only came from one person. I am going to keep blogging until at least November 2012. If I do decide to quit blogging, I will not delete the blog so other people can learn from my campaigning mistakes.
If you quit your current blog in 2012 I am glad you won’t delete your blog.
I hate it when bloggers say, “Okay, I am going to quit blogging” and then they also delete their blog.
No, no, no, no!!!
We should always keep our archives open for people who pass by our blogs.
Also
If you do at some point quit your current blog and decide to begin another one in a different niche then please inform me so I can follow along.
Thanks!
I can’t provide any useful tips so I’ll throw a non-useful one your way. Use the word “butt” in every sentence.
Butt I don’t wanna
I can’t offer anything all that useful since I just found this. BUT you should have a date somewhere on each update so people like me can know if our comments are even relevant anymore.
Hmm… your comments are always relevant.
