When I started Dummies Of The Year I added a ranking button in my sidebar.  Eventually I started to get quite a few hits from a post about Britney Spears and the Super Bowl.  My ranking got quite high with Top Blog Area.  I went to see my ranking on the page that has Dummies Of The Year.  I am no where to be found.  I have used Top Blog Area in the past and haven’t had any problems.

Why Would Top Blog Area Ban Me?

Here are the terms and conditions in their own words:

This is a toplist for blogs only, we do not allow any kind of spam sites to register if you are one please quit the registration now and save us both some time.

You are not allowed to sign up if you blog contains any kind of materials which violate any applicable laws.
Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions.

We do not allow blogs with p0rnographic content or any kind of nude content.

I have not put any spam or p0rnographic material on this blog nor any other blog I have ever had.  I have tried to contact them SEVERAL times but they never respond.  My conclusion:  Top Blog Area you are dumb!! This will be my opinion until they contact me and fix this problem.

Submit Post To Digg

  1. Join Digg if you haven’t already done so.
  2. Write a good post (or a bad post, whatever).
  3. Sign in to Digg.
  4. Submit New (top right corner of Digg page).
  5. Copy/Paste the URL of your post.
  6. Select News Article, Video, or Image.
  7. Add the title to your post, a short description, the most appropriate topic, and the “are you human” code at the bottom. *Digg will think your story is a duplicate.  Just ignore this, go to the bottom of the page and click “Totally Original, I Swear!”
Add Digg Button To Your WordPress.com Blog
  1. Once you have completed step 7 and Digg brings you to the next page look at the address bar.  Copy your address and put it on a document or some place safe because you are getting ready to use it.
  2. Log into your WordPress.com account and edit the post you just submitted to Digg.
  3. At the top of your post (edit screen) you will see two tabs at the right hand corner.  Click HTML.
  4. Get ready to insert the code at the top of your post.
For Example:
digg=http://digg.com/comedy/Michael_Phelps_Endorses_Kellogg_s_New_Slogan_Dummies_Of_Th
Make sure that once you put your digg address in the right place that you put [ ] on either side of it so that the code shows up as a button when you publish.
Once you have entered your Digg HTML button click “update post.”  Now go see your post with your new shiny Digg button.

I conclude that the amount of traffic one receives at their WordPress.com blog has nothing to do, or at least very little to do, with whether or not one makes it to the WordPress.com spotlight.

My Thoughts And Yours

Why doesn’t WordPress reveal their special formula to getting on the Blogs of the Day?  If we knew it wouldn’t this make us better bloggers?  Your thoughts?

Some people are weird also.  I like to get traffic to Dummies Of The Year.  For the most part I like organic traffic but every once in a while I like to experiment to see how I can increase my daily hits.  Let me share my novice six tips with you.

Organic Traffic Tips

1. WordPress.com

  • If you are not trying to make money and just blog as a hobby but still want the traffic to come your way use WordPress.com.  Do not use Blogger.  One has more control over a Blogger blog but I did not  have much traffic when I used their platform.

2. Write Good Post

  • Write about things you like and at times (or all the time) ask controversial questions.  People love a good debate because most everybody thinks they are right.
  • Write often.  1 to 3 times a day.  Don’t go hog wild though otherwise Google might see you as a splog.

SEO Traffic Tips

3. Write About Club Penguin

  • Wait until there is a Club Penguin fad going on like Fiesta Party Cheats And Secrets
  • Make sure you provide several links to people who are all talking about Fiesta Party Cheats And Secrets.  This is really a win/win.  You get traffic and send traffic to other people.

4. Use Autohits

5. Use Condron

6. Use Alpha Inventions

The last three suggestions will allow you to get a ton of traffic but I am not sure how valuable it is.

Linking Gravatar To Your WordPress Site

1. Go to your dashboard

2. Go to your profile and click on it.

3. Scroll down to Website and enter: http://yoursitesname.wordpress.com

Then go down to update profile and click.

Hope this helps.

When you leave a comment on another WordPress site and your Gravatar is linked to your site you will gain more traffic.

    The other blog I have put my heart and soul into.  I almost have 10,000 hits which is fairly normal for as long as the blog has been on.  This blog is just my “I am not going to try very hard blog.”  Well I haven’t and this blog has had on average more hits than my first love.  Why have I had more hits on this site?  Well I will give you three tips.

    1. Write a post that is really catchy in the headlines.  My example is I jumped on the bandwagon of Sarah Palin and the bikini incedent.  I claimed that I had pictures of Sarah Palin in a Bikini.  Well if you want to see this post then go here: Sarah Palin in a Bikini

    2.     3.
