There Is Probably No God Now Stop Worring And Enjoy Your Life

Only in Europe right?  Let me hop right into the dumbness of it all.  Evangelical perspective:  There is a God.  He sent His Son to die on the cross for humanities sins.  If one is a follower of Jesus then they have no need to worry.  If an evangelical sits around worrying about God then they may need to brush up on their theology a bit.

I cannot speak for others but from a biblical point of view there is no need for followers of Jesus to worry.  This begs the question, “What would they worry about?”  The “dumbness of it all” is thinking that followers of Jesus sit around worrying.

Before I get into the questions let me say that I am not opposed to seeing this slogan in America.  I do not agree with it but I do believe that everyone in America has the right to say whatever dumb thing they want ;)

Which Is Dumb

Is the slogan dumb?  Is it dumb that this slogan is not on an American bus?  Is a worrying Christian a dumb notion?  Anything else?

@ efilyzarcym, Thank you for your comment. I appreciate all views.

First I want to say that I cannot replace the word dumb but thank you for asking. I do not need to purchase a thesaurus because my mac computer already has one and I have put it to good use. If you notice I have used synonyms for the word dumb in the tag area. So instead of asking who is dumb I could ask who is being the boob but I might get the wrong visitors. Though "Boobs Of The Year" would skyrocket my traffic. Hmm... ;)

I use the word "dumb" in the most light hearted way possible. I don't think people are dumb but sometimes we can do dumb things. Dumb is the whole slogan of this site. My slogan may be dumb but if it is it just adds "quality" to the site.

To be less judgmental is to not blog at all. How fun would that be? :)

I find your #2 response absolutely funny but in a good way. Let me explain. You say that people in America (particularly them) have a hard time relating to others. That was your gist right? This is half true. Yes Americans do have a hard time relating to somebody different. But so do the Chinese, Russians, Germans, Mexicans. Every culture has their own norms. If they find themselves experiencing a norm different from their own they have a difficult time relating to that "norm."

Europe's norm is that their is no God with most people. I personally know people who will say that they are Lutheran but when asked about God they will tell me there is no God. If I was in Germany and I put on the side of a bus "There is a God so please praise Him" I may not offend anybody but they would look at me like I was dumb.

Everyone has some difficulty excepting a norm different from their own.

This blog is meant for humor. It is a chance for people to get away for a short time and enter fun land. Like my friend said of Harry Potter, "It's play play."

Well, I noted the word "probably." The statement was qualified, leaving room for, however slim, that there "might be." If there is only a one percent probability that there "is," you go with the ninety-nine percent and don't worry, and the one percent comes through, then you're, literally, in for a world of hurt.

To me if you take the word "probably" out of the sentence then the sentence makes logical sense. Leaving any chance, screws the pooch. Because if there is one chance in a million and I bet on the wrong horse . . . *shrug*

Actually the ad was paid for by an atheist who was irritated by a message from christians a year earlier.
Here is a link to an interview that explains it a bit:

Gryp: You might wanna google "Pascal's Wager" to refute your stated argument.

U.Nobody: I can understand and respect your desire to believe in a higher power, as it is something that you are obviously comfortable doing.
There are people in this World who are more comfortable believing what they can see/hear/feel/prove. And although I can see how you could not possibly understand that kind of "dumb" thinking, perhaps you could try not to be so judgemental.

As for your questions:
1) Is the slogan dumb?
The slogan is "less dumb" if you take the time to watch WHY it was chosen.

2) Is it dumb that this slogan is not on an American bus?
Actually, I don't think "dumb" has much to do with it. I do think that many people (particularly Americans) who have a hard time relating to others who believe/think differently than they do - - which makes it very difficult to be open-minded enough to not only stop hating, but to stop the spread of hate.

3) Is a worrying christian a dumb notion?
I always wondered why christians were "god fearing" - - wasn't that the point of upgrading the jewish religion....making the scary, jealous, wrathful god into a forgiving, loving, and chilled-out god? What's to fear?

4) Anything else?
Can you please purchase a thesauraus and find another word besides "dumb?" - - possibly on the less judgmental side...more along with the teachings of jesus....you know, love your neighbor and all that?

Your rambling made a lot of sense. The only thing I would say differently is that I think the AD was probably paid by an Atheist in attempt to evangelize to those who are not Atheist.

And yes it's dumb indeed.

The logic should be, IF there is a God the chances are better for you if you believe in God than to NOT believe.

I think the message is directed towards atheists and agnostics. Giving justification for non belief. But it is very true that the truly faithful have nothing to worry about IF there is a God, and if there is NOT a God and you believe--then what's the hurt.

Now maybe if I am going to commit some horrid moral offense and was prone to worry about the afterlife consequences, THEN this thought might give me some comfort.

I'm rambling. Sorry. Summary: It's dumb.

I think true 'dumbness' is when one does something that causes one to say to oneself, "D'oh!" Anything else may LOOK dumb or SOUND dumb, but that is likely just someone else's opinion, a little bee buzz in the hive... but it CAN be humorous. There are exceptions to the rule: for instance, the young Southern white boy's shout of "Hey y'all, watch this!", then he does a dumb show-off stunt and then he dies before being able to say "d'oh". And stuff like that.
Thanks for adding my blog to your roll. I hope I'm the pickle relish to your mustard.

Brad you have made an excellent observation.

I believe in free speech and all, but when it comes to religion, public displays like this shouldn't be allowed (or at least restricted).

I mean, if a Christian puts an anti-Muslim slogan on a bus (or vice-versa), it would be taken down immediately. Yet somehow atheists are allowed to say whatever they want in big bold letters on a bus. Weird...

I wonder how much it cost to advertise on a bus in England.

Looking so forward to seeing one on my next trip to london, even asked friends to take pictures if they see one :D

Everyone is free to give a view here but what is your point?

Plenty of Christian moms worry about their atheist sons/husbands/daughters, etc.
